Power generation in Alberta is thermal-dominated. Of the installed capacity of just above 12,000 MW, approximately 49% (5,893 MW) is coal fired, 39% (4,686 MW) is gas-fired, 7% (869 MW) is hydro, and 4% (497 MW) is wind powered. Cars would be charged outside of peak demand times to avoid overloading the grid. Hamid Zareipour.

Damages are expressed in cents per VMT (2007 USD). Transportation, which today relies almost exclusively on oil, accounts for nearly 30% of US energy demand. Electric vehicles and grid-dependent (plug-in) hybrid vehicles showed somewhat higher nonclimate damages than many other technologies for both 2005 and 2030.

3 David Herron said on March 16th, 2009 at 12:31 am Fast recharge will require huge power levels. The availability of high current charging power is not important. The tango (commuter cars) says they only need 50 million to become profitable. This is a drop in the bucket. I agree with sebastian. About Gas 2.0 on It’s On!

Vehicle to Grid (V2G) technology is a bi-directional electric grid interface that allows a plug-in to take energy from the grid or put it back on the grid. Several early models of passenger vehicles have enough energy stored in advanced batteries to power several homes for hours.

There are at least a half dozen different technologies to power cars with electricity under construction. Think has even shown a convertible prototype. Massive government subsidies are upending commercial considerations.
