If we look at the fine print, GM actually introduced a sort-of-a-hybrid vehicle as a 2004 model , though the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid/GMC Sierra Hybrid didn't have regenerative braking. The system replaced the starter motor and alternator with a belt-driven motor/generator rig that generated five horsepower and 48 pound-feet.

I have an 2004 Suzuki quadrunner (Z250 is anyone cares) It''s a rolling chassis only. Motor was lost long ago. I am leaning towards a golf cart or forklift motor. All the Golf cart motors I have been finding on the net are either 10 or 19 spline. Golf cart motor ? Forklift motor? 36/48 volt.

Anyos Jedlik built an electric motor in 1828, and he used it to make the first miniature electric car. It had an AC induction motor and a 96V lead-acid battery pack as its power source.
