People might be bored reading about the Prius but a review on four Priuses (2004, 2005, two 2006s) that my family owns that ran a total of 913k km (570k miles) should be interesting, right? It was time to buy our first car. I found a a 2004 with 247k km (154k miles) on the clock. This criteria only left the Prius in play.

At these prices, people are buying the "environmental feature" -- they want to be among the first owners of the worlds cleanest extended-range vehicles. They are early adopters, buying "Version 1.0" The easiest conversions are for 2004-2008 Prius (not 2001-2003 Prius) and the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner Hybrid.

The catalytic converter that keeps the ICE from being a gross polluter in conventional cars and hybrids however, isn't kept warm by the continual embrace of an ever-churning engine in a hybrid with all-electric range. Third-party and DIY converters can't muck with every system on a car. Cold starts mean more pollution.

My wife grew up listening to records on this stereo, but now it was 2004, and vinyl was clearly dead and never coming back. A digital-to-analog converter then creates left- and right-channel audio signals to feed into the hi-fi. The flatscreen accepts digital HDMI signals and outputs audio via an optical-fiber connection.
