BMW Manufacturing earned a 2003 Green Power Leadership Award for using landfill gas to generate a portion of the power needed to operate its Spartanburg, South Carolina manufacturing facility. At the head of EPA’s Top 30 list is Walmart, with 158,732,026 kWh of green power usage (8% of total), from solar and wind.

GE and Harbin Electric Co., HE) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in which HE agreed to purchase GE’s newest gas turbine featuring FlexEfficiency technology. As part of the MOU, HE plans to purchase four 9FB gas turbines from GE before the end of 2013, including two that will incorporate FlexEfficiency technology.

Obama noted that last year, US oil production reached its highest level since 2003 and that for the first time in more than a decade, imported oil accounted for less than half the liquid fuel consumed. We’re also exploring and assessing new frontiers for oil and gas development from Alaska to the Mid- and South Atlantic.

Oil demand grew by less than 1%—the slowest rate amongst fossil fuels—while gas grew by 2.2%, and coal was the only fossil fuel with above average annual consumption growth at 5.4% Gas production globally grew by 3.1%; the US recorded 7.7% The EU’s decline in gas production was the highest on record (-11.4%).
