Its one of the most eagerly anticipated plug-in vehicles to join the market in the next year or so, but the reintroduced Toyota RAV4EV won’t be available to buy, says Geri Yoza, Toyota’s National Business Planning Manager of Advanced Vehicle Marketing.
The RAV4 EV combines a Tesla-designed and produced battery and electric powertrain with Toyota’s most popular SUV model. Cd, RAV4 EV achieves the lowest coefficient of drag of any SUV in the world. However, most of this data, such as airbag or shift selector codes, is somewhat peripheral to the RAV4EV’s powertrain components.

We can also extrapolate some data from experience with the RAV4EV all-electric vehicles. Nickel-metal hydride batteries, proven for many years in hybrids to be safe, could go into PHEVs today -- they would be designed more like the ones Toyota put in its 2002 RAV4 EV compact all-electric SUV than like current hybrid batteries.
