We first wrote about the Triac three-wheel electric vehicle back in 2010. Made by Green Vehicles of Salinas, California, it touted a 100-mile range, an 80 mph top speed, and a price tag of $25,000. Some curious vehicles have emerged on the electric vehicle market over the years, and few have been more curious than the Triac.

ElectraMeccanica Vehicles will begin customer deliveries of its single-occupant, three-wheeled, electric vehicle, the SOLO. The SOLO is a purpose-built, three-wheeled, all-electric solution for the urban environment. The SOLO has a range of 100 miles and a top speed of 80 mph, making it safe for highways.

It has a top speed of 35 mph (56 kph). A direct-drive wheel motor is optional. The company has also announced a joint venture with PUES Corporation (Japan) for the development and production of inverters and new technology in-wheel motors. Offering good response when starting off, excellent acceleration and a top speed of 130 km/h (81 mph), it is designed for the urban and suburban traffic of Europe’s large cities. This environmental strategy followed by the Marque also applies to its two- and three-wheeled vehicles. Its Li-ion batteries give it a range of 130 km.

Despite having seen them around for years, they were models I had long assumed would be marginally better than the atrocious three-wheeled motorcycles offered by Harley-Davidson. Can-Am’s three-wheeled products turned out to be some of the best touring vehicles I’ve ever ridden sans air conditioning.
