The 2012 Fisker Karma remains a stunning car, regardless of its range-extended electric powertrain. While the struggling-though-not-yet-bankrupt company remains in limbo, with a purchase reported but not yet confirmed, it hasn''t built cars since July 2012.

Fisker Automotive will begin selling its extended range electric luxury cars in Montreal, Québec. As the Karma is classified as a plug-in hybrid by Québec’s Drive Electric Program, buyers are eligible for an $8,000 rebate toward the purchase price.

The loan will support the Karma, a full-size, four-door sports sedan, and a line of family oriented models being developed under the company’s Project NINA program. Fisker, a startup based in southern California, expects to manufacture the Karma and Project NINA lines at a recently shuttered General Motors factory in Wilmington, Delaware.

Fisker is delivering the Karma, but not without glitches and its DOE loan is being questioned. Gas prices are at historically high levels, and have become a political football, but haven’t led to a surge in EV purchases.
