The university is taking part in an utility rate program developed by its local utility New Hampshire Electric Cooperative (NHEC), electrification software provider Bellawatt, and Fermata Energy. These programs have proven effective at offsetting surging customer demand by dispatching power from customer-owned batteries.

Much of the meager wind power that does exist comes either from other states or from the 30-megawatt Block Island Wind Farm—the first offshore wind farm in the US—which consists of just five turbines and only came online in 2016. But Rhode Island plans to fill the gap with as much as 600 megawatts of new wind power.

We noted in December that the Society of Automotive Engineers, or SAE, was working to update standards for the interface between plug-in electric cars and the grid, and planned to agree on a set within months. And for this ecosystem to be robust, there must be commonality, especially when owners are plugging into the electrical grid.

I went and spoke to their City Council and said “For $50,000 a house I’ll put in solar AND battery systems and take you off the grid. If you don’t use their (SCE) power, you don’t need their poles! “ Idiots !
