Minneapolis-based Xcel Energy will work with Idaho National Laboratory to demonstrate a system that uses a nuclear plant’s steam and electricity to split water. The report was published by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Earlier post.)
There have been vigorous debates pro and con in the United States and elsewhere over whether electric grids can support EVs at scale. Further, the system was designed for one-way power, not for distributed renewable-energy devices sending power back into the system. The answer is a nuanced “perhaps.” million miles of power lines.
The demonstration, held at Cummins Power Generation facilities in Minneapolis, leveraged development supported by the US Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE). Caine Finnerty, vice president, SOFC Operations, Protonex Technology Corporation.
In addition to battery again and life cycle analysis, the project is exploring smart grid interfaces; bi-directional charging; second life—i.e., grid storage and load balancing for the battery pack; and integration with renewable energy. The program is slated to rack of 9 million miles of data, with 1.4
Laredo Bus Facility Solar Canopies: Provide shade structures with integrated, grid tied photovoltaic cells to be erected on the bus storage lot at the Laredo Bus Maintenance Facility. Renewable Wind Energy: MBTA will design and construct wind energy generation turbines in eastern Massachusetts (from among Kingston, Newburyport, Bridgewater).
I just want to see projects get funded, renewable energy put to work, energy efficiency retrofits instituted, conservation measures adopted and sustainable practices replace business-as-usual before the climate crisis makes any positive action a moot point. You can argue the merits of that if you want, but I’m done arguing.
