Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn announced the return of the Datsun brand as Nissan’s third global brand, alongside Nissan and Infiniti. Datsun vehicles will start sales in India, Indonesia, and Russia from 2014. In 2011, 890,000 vehicles were sold in Indonesia, for the first time making the nation ASEAN’s largest car market.

Global use of biofuels will more than double between 2009 and 2015 – that is the verdict of Hart Energy Publishing’s Global Biofuels Centre (see article ). It predicts 35 per cent growth in the US; 30 per cent growth in Brazil; and substantial increases in areas including the Asia-Pacific region, France, Germany and Argentina.

There may still be significant questions over issues such as land use and competition for feedstock supplies for traditional food and feed uses, but that won’t stop the global use of biofuels from more than doubling between 2009 and 2015.
