Volvo Cars will publicly unveil its new S90 premium sedan at the upcoming North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit in January. The new Volvo S90 comes equipped with an advanced semi-autonomous drive feature, Pilot Assist. Pilot Assist is another step towards full autonomous drive—a key innovation area for Volvo.

Volvo Cars will introduce a front-wheel drive (FWD), 3-cylinder engine variant of its Twin Engine plug-in hybrid electric vehicle system in 2018, followed by its first production battery-electric vehicles and a new 48V mild hybrid system in 2019, according to Mats Anderson, Senior Director of Electric Propulsion Systems.

Swedish energy company Vattenfall and the Volvo Car Corporation are launching an industrial joint venture partnership to introduce plug-in hybrids on the market by 2012. In January 2007, Volvo and Vattenfall launched a joint project with the aim of testing and developing plug-in technology.
