Nissan announced that cumulative sales of vehicles with its e-POWER electrified powertrain ( earlier post ) surpassed 500,000 units at the end of March. The e-POWER system uses a highly efficient gasoline engine to generate electricity for the electric motor that propels the vehicle. e-POWER power train (for New Note).

The Nikkei reports that Nissan Motor Co. Nissan is likely to develop a low-cost, compact powertrain similar to those in Honda hybrids, with an electric motor to provide additional power to a constantly working engine. The hybrids are expected to be 50-60% more fuel efficient than their gasoline-powered counterparts.
