The changes, announced on Thursday, apply to Zoox’s fleet of vehicles that it designed and built itself. Zoox said it will free up its specially designed vehicles to drive at speeds up to 45 miles per hour (72 kph), from 35 mph.

The Google autonomous fleet has so far racked up 1,725,911 miles driven in autonomous mode, with 1,158,921 miles driven manually. The fleet is averaging 15K to 17K autonomous miles per week, with testing locations in Mountain View, California; Kirkland, Washington; Phoenix, Arizona; and Austin, Texas.

While San Francisco was one of Waymo’s early testing sites, it is lagging behind the Phoenix metropolitan region in terms of autonomous ride-hailing commercialization. Because in 2017, Waymo began providing rides to Phoenix residents and though the company didn’t make considerable money, the program is said to be a success.

The Renault-Nissan Alliance is building fleet charging stations in Portland and Phoenix. With a top speed of only 65 MPH and a 100 mile range, the Think Global will remain a niche City Car for conspicuous green consumers who aren’t concerned about safety. We have those…they are readily available in our own domestic fleet.
