Hyundai Motor Company unveiled the 2.4 Theta II GDI, its first Gasoline Direct Injection engine before an audience of engineers attending the Ninth Annual Hyundai-Kia International Powertrain Conference in Korea. GDI application will subsequently be expanded across the gasoline engine family and applied to other Hyundai models.

Hyundai’s first diesel-electric hybrid powertrain uses the new U2 1.7-liter liter engine augmented by two-stage turbocharging and Hyundai’s Lithium Ion-Polymer battery partnered with a six-speed, dual-clutch transmission.
