The Tsukuba Environmental Style Test Project is scheduled to commence in March 2010 in Tsukuba city, near Tokyo, Japan. The project aims to comprehensively assess a low-carbon energy network composed of electric vehicles (EVs), rapid chargers, fixed battery stations, solar panels and a car sharing service.

Honda’s current state-of-the-art vehicle is the Clarity Fuel Cell, currently available in Japan, and to be available in the US and Europe by the end of the year. Nissan has a memorandum of understanding with One North East, the regionaldevelopment agency, to potentially use its Sunderland plant to produceelectric vehicles, but its first cars will all come from Japan. BMW’s Oxfordplant is the sole source of the Mini so if an electric Mini goes intoproduction it will start there.
