Ford has begun production of the Deutsche Post StreetScooter WORK XL electric van at its European HQ in Cologne, Germany. Deutsche Post DHL is using the WORK XL to support its urban parcel delivery service in Germany, while the future availability of the electric van to third-party customers is under consideration.

Michigan-based Azure began work on its collaborative agreement to deliver the pure battery-electric powertrain for the Transit Connect in the US and Canada in October 2009 following the end of Ford’s partnership with Smith Electric Vehicles US on that project ( earlier post ). Mr. Thesen said that a factory in Turkey was being refurbished to be able to produce 100,000 electric vehicles a year. The Peugeot name actually has a long history in the production of electric vehicles, having sold more ‘zero emission’ vehicles than any other manufacturer in the world. Its first electric vehicle was the Peugeot 106 Electric, which was sold between 1995 and 2003. PSA Peugeot Citroen – one to watch.
