These four main kits are now joined by the all-new Modularer Elektrifizierungsbaukasten (“Modular Electric Drive kit”, or MEB), being developed by the Volkswagen brand. Since January 2016, the MEB has been under the direction of Christian Senger, who was previously in charge of Automotive Systems and Technology at Continental AG.

It’s mind-blowing, if not quite in the re-wire brain territory of the Porsche Taycan Turbo S. I spend most of the day driving in GT mode so the economy’s not falling. He envisioned “hundreds of thousands” of charging spots, as well as a number of stations where drained batteries could be exchanged for fresh ones. Charge, drain, repeat is extremely inefficient. We definitely need an urban charging grid if the electric car is to find a place in town, where it’s needed most.

Finally, in a first-of-its-kind partnership in the United States, Mitsubishi announced a strategic alliance with Oregon to develop an electric car charging infrastructure in the state. The big problems now is how to create a battery that can charge rapidly and infrastructure to charge them. If you charge with solar, is way less.
