EVs are powered with an electric motor and inverter rather than an internal combustion engine, their internal components are radically different to ICEVs. Instead, they often come with a tyre repair kit or a sealant that can temporarily fix a flat tyre. Why are EV repairs different from regular cars? What if my EV tyre goes flat?

Here goes (in no particular order): Things That Went Well During the Conversion The 914 AC kit from Electro Automotive is a good one. I modified the wiring in the original 914 AC kit (as suggested by Paul Jorg) to turn on the regen when the brake lights came on instead of controlling regen by releasing the accelerator pedal.

Two things have definitely made the car more fun to drive. Apparently, the AC motor feels like it has more torque at non-zero RPMs (perhaps just a false perception). Sooooo, with everything working reasonably well it's time to drop the motor/tranny again and revisit the flywheel vibrations again. Stay tuned.

Kia Niro EV GT-Line is equipped with a single electric motor. It still uses a single electric motor driving the front wheels. But the motor has been tweaked to make less torque – and not just a little bit. Motors : 1 front 150kW/255Nm. For luggage, you can expect 475 litres of room, measured to the VDA standard.

The 250kW/679Nm dual-motor all-wheel drive e-Tron 55 Quattro is pricier, at $108,500 plus on-roads. There’s already a single motor option with a dual-motor version in the works. Known as the Lightning Cat overseas, the sleek five-door from Chinese maker GWM is yet to be definitively confirmed for Australia.

Anyway, the GT-Line has dual motors, all-wheel-drive, 283kW/700Nm and 505km range (WLTP) from its lardy 99.8kWh battery. Call me old fashioned, but at this price give me a classy, single colour tan leather cabin – BMW and Lexus do this so well – or black leather with sporty red stitching a la Porsche.
