When you lease a car, a finance company effectively buys it from the manufacturer and leases it to you for the duration of your contract. It’s a great way to drive a brand new car without having to finance the entire cost. It was only around 15 years ago that EVs could barely travel 50 miles before running out of juice.

For on-the-go juice ups, the idea is to exchange your dead battery for a fresh one owned by Better Place. Which scheme wins may depend (in addition to financing hurdles) as much on our driving habits and patience as on advances in technology. The thing that bothers me the most about Tesla is not the range or cost of driving an EV.
