An outfit called Flex has apparently been slinging these types of conversions for some spell but is now expanding its presence into America through a location in San Diego. & Arguments have raged for eons about the effectiveness of these types of conversions in which an older car’s visage is pasted onto a modern machine.

How dare Ford besmirch the good Mustang name by calling a SUV, powered by electricity no less, a Mustang? Then a dealer from North San Diego County called and said they had what I was looking for, but it was a demo. Brett : I couldn’t do a sedan again, and having owned four Grand Cherokees I was comfortable with an SUV.

Conversions are mostly for the Prius, with a few for the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner hybrid SUVs. At that point, we expect the aftermarket companies prices to have come down sufficiently so that their conversions will be attractive to owners of hundreds of thousands of hybrids already on the road. So far, most start as hybrids.
