Any chance anyone knows whether there is any kind of tax benefit you can get from an EV conversion? Hi all, new member here and trying to figure out my budget.

The Ban on EV Conversions is Over!!! Yesterday (June 7, 2010), Electric Mobility Canada sent out an e-mail advising its Ontario members that MTO has lifted the ban, and has implemented an interim solution for the licensing of electric vehicle conversions. Previous to the residential building efforts, the chapter supported a successful measure exempting used EVs from provincial sales tax. Conversions are mostly for the Prius, with a few for the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner hybrid SUVs. At that point, we expect the aftermarket companies prices to have come down sufficiently so that their conversions will be attractive to owners of hundreds of thousands of hybrids already on the road. So far, most start as hybrids.

I imagine there will be tax incentives to build green generators when were at that stage. Once electric cars are more common, demand for electricity will rise, and electricity producers will have to look at big generators such as dams, nuclear stations or decentralised wind turbines that feed in to the grid. However, I dont welcome this news.

Theres a company in Guernsey (a UK island) which does conversions (the Mk1 shape), but I want a current shape model and a 60 mile range is just fine. The first one was the Zytek design you mentioned, but this is a 2nd "new and improved" design from Tesla, with more power, higher speed and greater range.

Not to mention the parts you most definitely could sell from the running gear. Its a Lotus.
