The Detroit-based automaker revealed a customized variant of its first EV at the Emergency Services Show in Birmingham. Several departments in the United States, including Fremont, California, Westport, Connecticut, and Hastings on Hudson, New York , have all added Tesla vehicles to their fleet.

General Motors’ Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant, home of the Chevrolet Volt, will close for four weeks beginning in June for planned upgrades to prepare for a significant increase in the rate of Volt production, along with assembly of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu midsize sedan.

Volts are expected to arrive at dealerships in Michigan, New Jersey, Connecticut, as well as the balance of Texas and New York in the first quarter of 2011. The program allows the utilities to study charging station installation process, vehicle charging, and customer feedback. Pricing has not been announced.

American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest is installing APUs on locomotive switch engines and replacing 12 diesel refuse haulers with CNG haulers. Southwest Detroit Environmental Vision is replacing five short-haul trucks and one crane. Beyond Toxics is replacing one truck and installing advanced exhaust controls on seven trucks.
