Volvo is taking the next step in its electrification strategy by producing test electric vehicles with range extenders. The concepts all use three-cylinder flex fuel (gasoline and E85) engines to complement the front-wheel electric drive. Two of the solutions are based on the Volvo C30 Electric.

Cadillac has greatly enhanced the performance of its ELR extended range electric vehicle (plug-in hybrid) ( earlier post ) for the 2016 model year, and is also cutting the MSRP by $9,005, bringing the starting price down to $58,495 net after the $7,500 US federal tax credit (MSRP = $65,995). gasoline-powered engine-generator.

The vehicle was developed by Shanghai GM and the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC), making it the first production electric vehicle created by a Chinese joint venture. In addition, the car will qualify for a free local Shanghai license plate exclusively for electric vehicles. The top speed is 130 km/h (81 mph).

Ford’s plan to invest in even more capacity for its five-passenger C-MAX electrified models for North America replaces an earlier plan of introducing the gasoline-engine-powered seven-passenger C-MAX multi-activity vehicle. This all-new hybrid also will travel at a higher all-electric speed than Fusion Hybrid’s 47 mph.
