Kia has presented the fifth-generation Kia Sportage SUV. Technical innovations include solenoid valve control, a variable capacity oil pump, an electric thermostat and an optimized lubricant and cooling setup. It also features a new oil pump that has been optimized for capacity along with a high-efficiency tooth profile design.

Nissan has introduced its seventh-generation Patrol—its global flagship large SUV model—incorporating a new platform, a new high-end V8 engine, a 7-speed automatic transmission and a new 4WD system. It allows the driver to quickly switch between four drive modes: sand, on-road, snow and rock, with the flick of a switch.

The target vehicle weight of around 1000kg make it significantly lighter than most comparable compact SUVs. The tire tread compound is made of nearly all sustainable or recycled materials, including sunflower oils and rice husk ash silica, as well as pine tree resins and full natural rubber which replace synthetic, petroleum-based materials.

Chrysler introduced the new 2014 Jeep Cherokee mid-size SUV at the New York International Auto Show. The electro-hydraulic fully variable valve-lift system uses a column of oil in place of the traditional mechanical link between the camshaft and intake valves. Five customized settings are offered: Auto, Snow, Sport, Sand/Mud and Rock.
