Mazda Motor Corporation and Ford Motor Company’s joint venture, AutoAlliance (Thailand) Co. AAT), will invest US$350 million in its pickup truck plant to support the production of Mazda and Ford’s next generation pickup trucks. The investment will enable production of the new compact pickups to commence in mid-2011.

Mazda Motor Corporation and Ford Motor Company inaugurated their new joint venture manufacturing passenger car plant at AutoAlliance Thailand (AAT). The new plant will produce the Mazda2 and Ford Fiesta compact cars for sale in Thailand and export throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

It also means Ford doesn’t have a competitor for some of the top selling vehicles in the country, including the Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage and Nissan X-Trail. Birkic says the decisions was about positioning the brand for the future and the evolving transition to EV, something he says the company is “all-in” on.

Morgan Motor Company has rolled out a new concept for an all-electric sports car based on its second-generation Morgan Super3. Called the Morgan XP-1, the new battery-electric concept is said to preview the small British firm’s latest EV tech, rather than pave the way for a zero-emission three-wheeler Morgan.

Ford Motor Company officially launched the new Ford Fiesta into the China market on the southern resort island of Hainan. The sedan and the five-door Fiesta hatchback are both built at the Changan Ford Mazda Automobile Company manufacturing facility in Nanjing.
