According to provisional data published by the European Environment Agency (EEA), the average CO 2 emissions from new passenger cars registered in the European Union (EU) in 2018 increased for the second consecutive year, reaching 120.4 The market share of gasoline vehicles also increased, constituting 3.6% grams of CO 2 per kilometer.

Efforts to improve the fuel efficiency of new cars sold in the European Union (EU) stalled in 2017 compared to 2016, according to provisional data published today by the European Environment Agency (EEA). For the first year since monitoring started, gasoline cars became the most sold vehicles in the EU, constituting almost 53% of sales.

A new Ford Motor Company-sponsored poll of 6,000 people across Europe found that most Europeans remain committed to car ownership, but have growing concerns about traffic congestion, the cost of driving and the environment. 6,028 people were questioned across six European countries; Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK.

In Germany, the car, even before market launch, was picked as the overall winner in the VCD Environment List ( VCD Auto-Umweltliste ) and was also awarded the ACVmobile environmental prize (ACVmobil Umweltpreis). Volkswagen used a newly developed three-cylinder gasoline engine with 999 cc displacement (EA211 engine series).
