On Sunday, May 5, 2019 the Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club held their annual Awards Banquet and presented a special conservation award to Joe Galliani, declaring-. This effort eventually led to the formation of the Los Angeles County Clean Power Alliance.

That same year, in my role as founding organizer of climate action group, 350 South Bay Los Angeles, I was able to bring my skills and experience to a wider community and make the case for our need to switch to 100% fossil free transportation to stave off the impending climate crisis. I pushed my friends to get one.

My favorite part of this next CicLaVia is t he Bike Parade coming from my friends at Greenpeace and Sierra Club which they’re calling ROLL AGAINST COAL. In case you didn’t know, the City of Los Angeles still gets 40% of its electricity from coal-fired power plants, the dirtiest polluters and greenhouse gassers on the planet.

But hold them up I do because their work – like the work of the the scientists, activists, organizers, volunteers and other climate hawks I admire, enlightens and inspires me to do the work I do.
