They wanted to see whether an electric vehicle could feed electricity back to the grid. The company’s president, Tom Gage , dubbed the system “vehicle to grid” or V2G. And EV owners would become entrepreneurs, selling electricity back to the grid. And indeed, that’s how promoters of vehicle-to-grid technology perceive the EV.

If everyone could hear Ed talk about the smart grid and how plug-in cars make it possible to inventory electricity then we’d already be building that grid today. Today they both drive electric cars powered from the charge generated via their rooftop solar panels. If everyone had as small a carbon footprint and lived as lightly on the land as Dency does, we wouldn’t be in the climate mess we’re in today. It’s worth waiting for, believe me.

The cap has to do with what percent of rooftop solar customers get to participate in the “net metering&# program that actually gives them credit for the solar power they produce and feed back into the grid. Right now we’re at about 12% from renewable sources. to 5% is throwing a meatless bone to starving dog.
