Air Products has signed a long-term supply contract with Monsanto Company to build a new world-scale hydrogen production plant to be located at Monsanto’s Luling, Louisiana Roundup facility. Air Products will build a steam methane reformer (SMR) producing more than 100 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of hydrogen.

In all, Air Products will increase the current level of supply by approximately 25 million standard cubic feet (MMscf) (around 60,000 kg) per day. The new pipeline extension, which is in the project execution phase, will connect Air Products’ Texas hydrogen system to the Louisiana hydrogen system.

Air Products will supply a combined additional supply of more than 200 million standard cubic feet per day of hydrogen for Valero’s refineries in St. Charles, Louisiana and Port Arthur, Texas. It will supply the Louisiana and Texas refinery and petrochemical industries with more than 1.2 billion cubic feet of hydrogen per day.
