In 2014 and 2015, Anheuser-Busch converted 160 diesel-fueled trucks in Houston and St. As the next step to achieve its 2025 sustainability goal of reducing carbon emissions across its value chain by 25% by 2025, the brewer will be expanding this fleet and investing in technology to transition to cleaner-burning renewable natural gas.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded $5 million in grant funding for 4 clean diesel projects at ports in California, Oregon, New Jersey and Texas. The Port of Houston Authority will replace 25 drayage trucks with drayage trucks powered by certified engines that are model year 2011 or newer.

This report underscores that more, older engines remain in service today.

Maersk Line conducted the first “fuel switch” demonstration on a container ship in the Gulf of Mexico as the result of a partnership between the EPA, the Port of Houston Authority and Maersk Line. Maersk vessels have demonstrated the effectiveness of a fuel switch in more than 1,200 port calls on the US West Coast since March 2006.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced three recovery act grants totaling $20 million in funding for the SmartWay Clean Diesel Finance Program. These recovery act grants will fund the purchase of new, cleaner or retrofitted vehicles and equipment.

The California data were compared to ship-plume measurements made by NOAA near the Port of Houston, Texas in 2006. One finding was that container ships encountered off the Port of Houston, where no clean-fuel use is required, emitted four times as much sulfur dioxide.
