GE and Shenhua have agreed to form an industrial coal gasification joint venture to advance the deployment of “cleaner coal” technology solutions in China. The new company combines GE’s expertise in industrial gasification technologies with Shenhua’s expertise in coal gasification and coal-fired power generation.

The announcement comes on the heels of Accelergy’s collaboration with the United States Air Force, which is currently conducting tests on the company’s fuels for application as 100% non-petroleum based synthetic jet fuel. Earlier post.). A $175,000 grant will be used for the site selection and analysis process for this facility.

The United States and China will develop and disseminate materials to improve public understanding of electric vehicle technologies. Building on the success of the first-even US-China Electric Vehicles Forum in September 2009, the United States and China will sponsor the event annually, alternating between the two countries.

According to the market-analysis firm Point Carbon, if a cap-and-trade system is instituted in the United States, the demand for carbon credits could explode into a $2 to $3 trillion market. The other goal, of course, is the system’s ultimate purpose: to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions by channeling funds into cleaner technologies.
