The projects aim to improve the basic understanding of the chemical and physical processes that govern coal conversion and utilization, by-product utilization, and technological development for advanced energy systems.

A dewatering technology developed at Virginia Tech has succeeded in reducing the moisture content of ultrafine coal to less than 20%, transforming it to a salable product.
