ITM Power has signed a fuel contract with Honda (UK), which will purchase hydrogen at £10/kg (US$12.91/kg). The contract covers fuel dispensed across ITM Power’s hydrogen refueling network. The Honda Fuel Cell Clarity has a hydrogen tank capacity of 5.46

Ford will offer the 2014 F-150 with the ability to run on compressed natural gas, making Ford the only manufacturer in the US with an available CNG/LPG-capable half-ton pickup. GM offers a CNG bi-fuel option for its HD pickups (e.g., Upfits run approximately $7,500 to $9,500 depending on fuel tank capacity. Earlier post.).

The Hertz Corporation is introducing compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles to its fleet in the US. All vehicles will include NeverLost GPS units to assist renters in mapping local CNG refueling stations. Last year, Hertz introduced the addition of CNG vehicles through Hertz On Demand at Oklahoma State University.

Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) and The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) announced funding for a new joint research projects to advance clean emission technologies. One of the main groups of pollutants resulting from fuel combustion is the oxides of nitrogen, or NO x. Tonzetich in the UTSA Department of Chemistry.

HyFive, funded by the EU FCH JU (Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking), is a £31-million (US$35-million) project involving leading automakers, hydrogen fuel suppliers, the Mayor of London’s Office and energy consultancies to make hydrogen vehicles a viable and environmentally friendly choice for motorists across Europe.

This prohibits closer placement of the catalyst to the engine, requiring an aggressive warm-up with extra fuel burning during the cold-start. Improvement of the thermal durability of the SCR catalysts would therefore be the key to maximizing the fuel efficiency, as well as to producing clean emissions from diesel engines.

In the UK, the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) and the Energy Saving Trust (EST), together with industry stakeholders, have launched the Clean Vehicle Retrofit Accreditation Scheme ( CVRAS ). Next year the Government will publish a comprehensive Clean Air Strategy which will address other sources of air pollution.
