Energy firm EDF Energy has secured a partnership with Peugeot and Citroen to supply electric vehicle recharging products and services to electric car buyers. Both fleet and residential customers who buy a Peugeot iON or Citroen C-Zero will have access to EDF’s package of recharging services.

The first nine electric drive cars to become eligible for the Plug-in Car Grant of up to £5,000 (US$7,900) in the UK are: Mitsubishi iMiEV; smart fortwo electric drive; Peugeot iON; Citroen CZero; Nissan Leaf; Tata Vista EV; Toyota Prius Plug-in; Vauxhall Ampera and Chevrolet Volt. The i0n made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September with Citroen also announcing its version of the car – to be known as the C-ZERO – earlier this week. It is rechargeable in six hours or to 80 per cent capacity within 30 minutes using a 50kW quick charge.

Car-sharing operator Zipcar and the Westminster City Council in London have launched a new car sharing club fleet that will initially include 20 hybrid vehicles and will offer members access to the country’s first all-electric car club vehicle, a Citroen c1. There are an additional 48 charging points in the council’s secure car parks.
