My biggest gripe was an intrusion of outside noise above 60 mph. I get it – sound deadening equals fuel-economy killing weight. This Prius wasn’t a bargain at $38K, but that’s still under the average transaction price these days and within reach for plenty of folks. Out the door price?

The York facility is much closer to Heathrow Airport (to which there are cheap nonstop flights from Denver) than the one in Edinburgh , so we rented a Mercedes-Benz A-Class saloon and drove the four hours north to York (stopping at a breaker's yard near Nottingham to grab some Euro-market XJ Cherokee taillights, as one does).

On the highway the hybrid powertrain doesn’t seem to run out of ideas when it comes time to pass another car going 70 mph, but this is no Lucid Air Sapphire either. The least efficient Camry trim will be the XSE model with all-wheel drive carrying fuel economy ratings of 44/43/44 mpg. Still efficient. It’s an outright deal.

Drivers obviously cannot expect stellar fuel economy with 500 horsepower on tap and the suspension, combined with a rather prominent front lip, requires one to be extra cautious transitioning between road and driveway. While the interior is clearly designed to be rugged and easy to clean, some of it feels and looks a little cheap.
