It shares an all-new platform with the purely petrol Outlander version. litre combustion petrol engine allied with twin electric motors, a 20kWh lithium-ion battery pack and all-wheel-drive. For a plug-in hybrid it is, but those prices are some $15,000 more than the equivalent Outlander petrol versions. Is it good value?

LDV has announced the prices of its trio of new electric models – and they’re not cheap. . The battery pack underneath means there’s also no room for a spare tyre, with a repair kit in its place. Like the petrol powered MIFA (without the “9”) the MIFA 9 electric people mover is available in three grades, Mode, Executive and Luxe.

Unlike the recently launched Genesis GV60 – which is built on a bespoke EV architecture – the GV70 Electrified takes the familiar underpinnings of a GV70 running on petrol or diesel and adapts them to EV life. But whereas the EV6 is based on a dedicated EV architecture, the Niro relies on an ICE platform to allow for the petrol engine for the hybrid model. If you want to keep the tyre mobility kit and power cable bags in the boot, this also eats into space. I bet the brakes would take a pasting, and those 21-inch Michelin Pilot Sport 4s aren’t going to be cheap to replace after a few track sessions. No frunk on offer, either. Some fun back roads? Very much up for that.

None of this quartet is cheap, but all are towards the value end of the EV market. It’s an unbranded system designed in-house by Tesla, but it’s a quality bit of audio kit. But it loses points for its lack of gear in its base guise and the compromises of starting with a platform that was designed for petrol.
