There is more to Dan Neil's recent LA Times column than a favorable review of yet another gasoline-only hybrid. He likes the Nissan Altima Hybrid well enough. Calls it a "Camry hybrid in tight jeans." More important, Neil says, is that it comes from an automaker that had scoffed at "hybridization."

The Volt is the plug-in hybrid car GM showed at last January’s Detroit Auto Show. The Volt , provided GM can get the lithium battery right , will go about 40 miles on an electric charge. Apply that principal to cars , and that pretty much explains the Volt. Good, sexy cars and a great price. Estimates vary.

Out in the desert as part of Burning Man , our encampment, Snow Koan Solar, is setting up a solar photovoltaic EV Charging Station (at 7:30 and Desert) for electric scooters, golf carts, sofas and barstools. We'll also be taking Burning Man art projects off petroleum generators by switching them to solar electricity. Google Guys Th!nk
