Private equity fund Pacific Road has agreed to acquire 10% of underground coal gasification (UCG) company Carbon Energy Limited from Australia’s national science agency CSIRO in an off-market trade. Pacific Road may elect to transfer some of its position in Carbon Energy Limited to an investor or investors in its fund.

Diesel or petrol starts as oil, on average 1,798 meters below the surface of the earth. A great deal of oil is extracted using what is called a pumpjack. The electricity usage for the 1,42,054 onshore wells that supply oil to India is over 1,415 GWh a month! That's just oil wells on land. What about deep sea drilling?
