BYD Ltd and Utility Partners of America (UPA) have put into service a 500 kWh containerized energy storage system (ESS) for one of the largest investor-owned utility companies in North America. —a new benchmark for the ESS industry, according to BYD. Expected service life of the Iron-Phosphate batteries is more than 25 years.

Add in a DC fast-charge rate that tops out at a claimed 130kW and you can see the iX1 is not cutting edge for range or recharging. It’s a fundamental disappointment in a car this price when a $30,000 cheaper BYD Atto 3 can go further. The iX1 has no Vehicle to Load or vehicle to Grid capability. 2023 BMW iX1 M Sport.

At least GM sent this nifty printed banner explaining all about the new J1772 industry standard recharging plug. But what did surprise this reporter was the absence of Honda, Toyota, BYD, and a lot of the other players listed on the Plug-In America car tracker. They even had a real plug connected to their toy car on the exhibit hall.

The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles.
