BYD delivered the first electric bus fleet for public transport in the Caribbean, opening up an exciting new chapter in the region’s efforts to tackle climate change. The Barbados Transport Board recently received 33 BYD battery-electric buses and two more of the 30-foot buses will be delivered by December.

BYD has exclusively won cumulative orders to supply 1,002 battery-electric buses to the capital of Colombia, Bogotá. Aruba’s Arubus has put into service a BYD 12-meter (40-foot) electric bus—the first such in the Caribbean. Four years ago the ministry of Mike Eman had a vision in which Aruba could and would be fossil fuel independent to generate electricity and to have a fully electrified public transportation including the independent taxis.
