The Swedes (with some Chinese help) are bringing more EVs.

There were concepts of the outrageous kind and the ripe-for-production kind. Chinese ones. No longer is Beijing a shameful sideshow of copying designs from Ranger Rover and BMW (although there were still hints when you delved deeper), but rather fresh style with unique Chinese fingerprints.

The secret is that Polestar is an electric performance brand from Volvo and its Chinese owner, Geely Holding. My test car, in “Moon” metallic, started at $59,900, and with $1,200 extra for the paint and $1,300 for destination (it’s shipped from its Chinese factory), came to $62,400. Still a bit of a mystery. Tesla will comfortably outsell Lexus, Honda, Jeep and others with its Model Y a chance to be the top seller among electric vehicles (December sales figures will confirm whether it overtakes the Model 3 for overall the overall 2022 sales leader ). If it wasn’t so stupidly expensive (around $100K, at least), I’d buy one.

Can these things add up to make a car that people want to buy? It seems like it still may be cheaper to just buy a well used Lotus Elise and modify it yourself.
