That’s not the EV I booked … Who knew? I pre-booked months in advance. I note my booking said: Hyundai Kona Electric or similar compact SUV. Battling a non-compliant DC charger somewhere in rural France This means any public charger I want to use, I’ll need to register with each individual company.

How time zips by. 6000+ miles.

With the cruise control on, managed to have a lovely conversation with Karthik on Jared Diamond’s excellent book Guns, Germs and Steel. (In Jay’s first EV was the DC motor Reva, which he bought way back in the early 2000s. Our booking was mistakenly done for the same day checkout. It’s a Zen feeling.

As I write, Polestar has closed order books for newly configured cars, but there are preconfigured ones available for near immediate delivery. The bigger battery brings no extra power or performance, but its DC charging capacity is up to 150kW rather than the Standard Range’s up to 130kW. And they don’t miss you.

There was a nice selection of books, especially guides to the flora and fauna of the High Sierras. We also made regular trips to Washington DC to lobby for support for the National Parks at the House, Senate, and NGO levels and we learned that we could meet with anyone we gave money to. We also found magazines ( Utne Reader anyone?)
