Finally, the Nio ET5 made its Norway debut in March, registering a healthy 41 initial units (for info on this new model, see my Sweden report ). Overall, HEVs have been on a long term decline since mid 2020.

Norway, the world’s leading market in the electric vehicle transition, saw plugins take 91.2% share in November, with Petrol at just 2.3% share in November, up from 79.9% a year ago. Non-hybridized combustion vehicles saw a record low of under 5.1%

Looking at the fuels breakdown, if plugins were up in December, the rest is falling quickly: HEVs had just 6% share of the market, petrol vehicles were down to just 3% share (it had 15% a year ago), while diesel had only 5%, while in the same month last year, the black fuel had 22% share.At Pl Model Sales 1 Tesla Model 3 4.232 2 VW ID.3

Norway’s auto market saw plugin EV volume explode to take 87.6% Petrol vehicles also saw a relative sales surge ahead of increased emissions taxes. PHEV’s relatively low share was not due to their fall in volume, rather that the volume of BEVs and petrol vehicles were much higher than usual.

Whilst this year France saw YoY plugin share growth in January, both the UK and Sweden have seen January’s plugin results flat, and both Norway and Germany saw a decline. Petrols were flat YoY in January, but are also on a slide over the long term. Meanwhile, diesel-only vehicles continued their decline, reaching 4.0%
