Open Source Civic EV Kit

After spending the past year and a half converting a Porsche 914 to an electric vehicle, I decided to expand my horizons by designing an open-source electric vehicle (EV) conversion kit for a commonly used car. This project started about a month ago when I became co-chair of the Oregon Electric Vehicles Association. Damn the torpedoes.

My 914 was featured on page 38 along with John Benson's 914 DC conversion! Federal tax law doesn't let me get a rebate from the feds because the car isn't a fully qualified conversion; however, I applied to the State of Oregon to get the state rebate of $750. I hope Electro Auto doesn't get even more swamped by the publicity.

Those states are California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Washington, Oregon and Maryland. Most of my low-income friends preface automotive conversations by issuing a reminder that they’re not interested in shopping for an electric. Your author has seen this repeatedly.

Here goes (in no particular order): Things That Went Well During the Conversion The 914 AC kit from Electro Automotive is a good one. If you do your own conversion, tap into all these resources whenever you have an issue. The conversion car came from camp914.com Writing a blog using blogspot.com was great for many reasons.

In a comment to a prior blog entry, Paul J suggested that I try using the brake light signal from the brake pedal to activate the regenerative system. The Oregon Electric Vehicle meeting is tomorrow and EV awareness day is August 11th. With my driving frustration, this seemed like a good idea.

Jason Hanely from Oregon, Ohio was the only fan I spoke to with strong specific complaints, but he also said "everything has been great so far." Those conversations took place before the race. Another Chicagoan and first-timer, Chris G., said the only thing he would change was the weather.
