The project will reduce the volumes of coal needed in the iron ore reduction process, thereby cutting CO2 emissions. ArcelorMittal Asturias (Spain) has the most advanced coke oven gas project, with injection of grey hydrogen (hydrogen that has been recovered from gases including natural gas and coke oven gas) due to start in early 2021.

Switzerland, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia and Spain will offer LPG-versions in addition to the regular gasoline and diesel range. At the same time, LPG helps reduce CO2 emissions immediately. In 2009, Chevrolet will further expand its LPG product range throughout Europe.

Leading European car rental company, Europcar is now providing information about the CO2 emitted by its vehicles on its rental invoices, making it easier for customers to monitor their environmental impact. Even before booking, customers can go online to assess the average Europcar fleet CO2 emissions for each rental car.

The countries covered in this research service are Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. European automakers are striving to comply with EU CO 2 norms (average fleet emissions less than 130 g/km by 2015) to avoid penalties.
