Initial sales of the 2014 Cadillac ELR extended range electric luxury coupe ( earlier post ) will begin in January in all major US metropolitan areas. With an all-electric range of about 35 highway miles (56 km), and a total range in excess of 300 miles (482 km), the ELR offers fuel economy of 82 MPGe, Cadillac estimates.

Within his talk about the need for a US energy policy at the IHS CERAWeek 2013 energy conference in Houston, GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson outlined some highlights of the company’s fuel economy plan through the 2016 model year.
