Prius PHV S. Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) has begun taking orders through Toyota dealers around Japan for the Prius PHV (plug-in hybrid). The Prius PHV will be sold by all Toyota, Toyopet, Toyota Corolla and Netz dealers in Japan; the sales target in Japan is 35,000 to 40,000 units per year. Battery type / capacity.

One has to wonder why it took them so long to do this!

As such, I think without significant price discounts (all of the other EVs also have access to the Federal tax credit except the Tesla), the two Bolt models will never see sales in the US above around 35,000 per year (if that even). Most all of these new EVs are arguably more compelling, albeit more expensive than the Bolt EV and EUV.

Price and tax incentives need to be worked out. In Berkeley, a town known for its environmental sensibility, one out of five cars sold today is a hybrid Prius. Battery-powered motors are more efficient than gasoline engines. Locations must be found for charging stations. And local electrical grids may need reinforcement.
