Volvo Trucks has become the first commercial truck OEM in the UK to qualify four different models for the Government’s £25,000 plug-in grant on new registrations. After the initial allocation of 100 grants, the grant amount decreases to £16,000 for the subsequent 250 trucks, and further drops to £5,000, with a maximum limit of 1,500 grants.

Effective immediately, the United Kingdom has announced it will no longer supply EV grants for most consumer purchases. The grant system, launched in 2011 as part of a system to kick start the EV sector in the UK, has ended for most consumers, only leaving grants available for vehicles in niche and commercial uses.

The first nine electric drive cars to become eligible for the Plug-in Car Grant of up to £5,000 (US$7,900) in the UK are: Mitsubishi iMiEV; smart fortwo electric drive; Peugeot iON; Citroen CZero; Nissan Leaf; Tata Vista EV; Toyota Prius Plug-in; Vauxhall Ampera and Chevrolet Volt. Just last week our Government cut the EV grant by £500 and now excludes EVs that cost more than £35,000. A report from Uswitch has revealed tono great surprise that the Tesla Model 3 achieves the highest sales volume worldwide, a model that will now be excluded from the grant as it costs more than £35,000.

This will see Modec granted full N2 EC Type Approval, allowing it to sell its vehicles in all EU member states without the need for individual national approval. Historically, European Type Approval has been available to M1 passenger cars, motorcycles and agricultural vehicles.
