A poll conducted online by Harris Interactive on behalf of Audi of America found that a majority of American drivers would support government initiatives aimed at spurring clean diesel vehicle sales in the US. Audi believes there are a variety of viable alternative fuel solutions, including electric, but diesel is readily available today.

Automakers agree on common plug to recharge electric vehicles by Darren Murph , posted Apr 19th 2009 at 4:24PM Just hours after General Motors put forth a proposal for a standardized plug for electric vehicles , in flies this. The US standard is 120V@60hz the UK standard is 240V@50Hz. Same goes for video cables.

As shown in Figure 1, for electricity, the PHEV can plug into a standard existing electrical outlet, and for supplementary power it can fill its tank from a standard, ubiquitous and familiar fuel station.

Standardization of battery shape and chemistry is another consideration that gives one pause. Most charge points available today take much longer to re-energize batteries than it does to fill a gas-powered cars tank. Forcing companies to conform to standardized batteries prevents them from designing better cars.
