Fuel properties affect a number of combustion and engine properties, including ignition delay; knocking tendency; flame speeds; pollutant emissions; sooting tendency and particle size distributions; and density, viscosity and heating value. The MFC applied this concept of surrogate fuels to develop both fossil-based and bio-based fuel models.
